BEATRIX POTTER "THE TALE OF PETER RABBIT" AND MORE - 6 VOLUME SET 1970's

“Once upon a time there were four little Rabbits, and their names were – Flopsy. Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter”. And so begins the Tale of Peter Rabbit by Beatrix Potter, the first of what would be 23 little illustrated books for children. Widely considered to be one of the most popular children's series of all time. 

The series began in 1901 with the “Tale of Peter Rabbit” self-published by Beatrix Potter with a total print count of 450 copies. In 1902 it was picked up by publisher Frederick Warne & Company with changes being made to the text and illustrations. Peter Rabbit has essentially remained the same ever since 1902, with the other 22 tales following in the years after. 

They have been reissued many times over by the publisher, with each decade having their own unique properties to tell the difference. For example in 1987 the publisher reissued the series featuring rephotographed illustrations and titled those editions as The Original and Authorized Editions. The same name was given to the 2002 Editions, which included added bonuses. These copies are from the 1970’s for a few reasons;  They don't have barcodes which began in the 1980s and both the 1987 and 2002 editions will have barcodes on the back covers. And these copies don’t state 'The Original and Authorized Editions' on them, but they have ISBN numbers which began in the 1970s.

* In honor of Beatrix Potter, who fought with the publisher for the books to be published in small formats instead of the big formats the publisher wanted, to get them in the hands of children at affordable prices by saying, "little rabbits cannot afford to spend 6 shillings on one book and would never buy it". Therefore they are reasonably priced at $40 total since each can go for $20 separately, because I do hope too they get into the hands of children.

Condition: Exceptional. Shows wear with flaws, but otherwise in very good condition, with similar condition dust jackets. Some dust jackets have the corners clipped.
