The beloved works of Charles Dickens were originally written in 19th century England. Beginning in 1947, Oxford University undertook a project to reproduce a 21 volume set of Dickens’ works titled “The New Oxford Illustrated Dickens”. It was released in both leather and cloth bound covers. To no surprise it was a success leading to multiple print runs. In 1987, forty years after the initial project, Oxford University brought back the “Oxford Illustrated Dickens”, this time with new design covers. 

This set of 6 books are from the original “Oxford Illustrated Dickens” project that began in 1947, and they include the following books;

Format: Cloth Hardcover with red dyed top edge as a design and functional piece to prevent wear.

Condition For “Dombey and Son”, “Martin Chuzzlewit”, “Oliver Twist”, “The Pickwick Papers”, “Our Mutual Friend”; Near Fine. Shows some wear with minor flaws, but otherwise in great condition.

Dust Jacket Conditions: Shows wear with flaws, but otherwise in very good condition.

Condition For “A Tale of Two Cities”; Exceptional. Shows wear with flaws, but otherwise in very good condition. Has some marginalia, which are notes or markings made by previous owner. In this case it was done with pencil and easily erasable. 

Dust Jacket Condition: Damaged with major defects, is marginally intact. Names written on back inner flap.
