One of the most translated literary works in history, Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra’s “The Ingenious Gentleman Don Quixote De La Mancha”, otherwise known as Don Quixote, has never ceased to amaze its readers since its creation in the 1600’s Spain. Originally published in two parts, one in 1605 followed by part two in 1615, tells the story of a hidalgo, fanatic for chivalry novels, who loses his sense of reality and believes to be a knight named Don Quixote de La Mancha.

The English translation by Samuel Putnam, which is widely considered the strongest, was published in 1949 by Viking Press in both a 2 volume set and a complete single volume shortly after. The bindings for the single volume had variants; a black cloth binding like this copy and a red cloth binding. The title page states “A New Translation from the Spanish, with a Critical Text Based upon the First Editions of 1605 and 1615, and with Variant Readings, Variorum Notes, and an Introduction by Samuel Putnam”

Subsequent publications of this translation were published by Modern Library and other publishing houses.

Condition: Average. Shows normal wear and aging, has noticeable flaws. Otherwise in good condition.
